![]() ![]() In 12 NFL seasons, Troy Aikman became one of the game's great quarterbacks. In total, Staubach appeared in two Super Bowls and led the Cowboys to victory twice. He coined the term "Hail Mary" with 2021 Hall of Fame inductee Drew Pearson. Staubach also became known as "Captain Comeback" for his 23 fourth-quarter come-from-behind victories in regular season and playoff games, including 14 in the final two minutes or overtime. He also still leads the club with a career average of 7.67 yards-per-attempt. Staubach owns the second-most passing yards in club history, 22,700, and his 3,586 in 1979 still ranks as the sixth most passing yards in a single season for the Cowboys. Over the next 11 years he was selected to six Pro Bowls and was named the NFL Players Association Most Valuable Player in 1971. In 1969 he finally began what would arguably be the most memorable and revered career in Cowboys' history. Staubach's Hall of Fame career is even more impressive considering the Cowboys had to wait five years after drafting him so that he could fulfill his military commitments. ![]()
